The Kachin refugees seeking refuge & resettlement in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia are not recognized by the government which never signed the 1951 UN Refugee Convention or the 1967 Protocol. As such all marriages of Kachin in Malaysia are not considered legal. This creates many problems, such as if someone gets approved for resettlement to a third country they have to fight a lot to get their spouse to join them as there are no legal wedding papers signed by any government.
